The Social Network, the 2010 movie about Facebook and its founder Mark Zuckerberg, might get a software update. Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the original script and received an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his efforts, hinted in a recent interview that there is a possibility a sequel to The Social Network would soon be in the works.

According to Sorkin, The Social Network‘s producer Scott Rudin reached out to him several times regarding a sequel, and the 57-year-old screenwriter and director doesn’t have anything against the idea.

“I’ve gotten more than one email from him with an article attached saying, ‘Isn’t it time for a sequel?'” Sorkin told AP Entertainment. “First of all, I know a lot more about Facebook in 2005 than I do in 2018, but I know enough to know that there should be a sequel. A lot of very interesting, dramatic stuff has happened since the movie ends with settling the lawsuit from the Winklevoss Twins and Eduardo Saverin.”

The Social Network, directed by David Fincher and starring Jesse Eisenberg in the lead role, told the story behind the early days of the social media giant. The movie ended up becoming a commercial hit, earning $224.9 million compared to $40 million budget, while also receiving widespread critical acclaim. It received 122 awards out of 203 nominations, including three Academy Awards and four Golden Globe awards.
