There have always been many things in common between Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, but now we have one more.

With the HBO series now done and dusted, its cast and crew can move on to other projects. Including the upcoming Lord of the Rings television series.

Set in the Second Age of Middle Earth, the Amazon series is being written and developed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Now, former writer and producer on Thrones, Bryan Cogman, has joined the production in a consulting role. He was responsible for writing 11 episodes of the award-winning series, mainly Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

While no official plot details or casting info has yet been announced, it is believed that the LOTR series will be set prior to Peter Jackson’s epic film trilogy when Sauron is still in power.
