Robert Pattinson in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"

Every death in Harry Potter stung, including the deaths of some of the bad guys, simply because every character is so well crafted. Nonetheless, here are five tragic deaths which we still can’t quite shake. Spoilers alert!

Cedric Diggory

The scene when Harry arrives back with Cedric’s body and the Triwizard cup is heartbreaking. The crowd erupt into applause and then silence when they realize what has happened. Harry crying hysterically over Cedric’s body brings a tear to our eyes every time.

Sirius Black

Sirius Black’s death was tragic not just because he was a great character, but because he was Harry’s godfather. He was also Harry’s only hope of living a normal life in the wizarding world and leaving the Dursleys.

Dobby

Too many great characters died in the seventh installment of the franchise, but Dobby giving up his life to save Harry was one of the most shocking and memorable.

Albus Dumbledore

We just didn’t see it coming.

Severus Snape

Snape was one of the least likable characters throughout the franchise, but in his death he became one of the most tragic anti-heroes of our generation.
