When a movie receives a loyal fan base, the best we often hope for is a sequel just so we can see our favorite characters return once more. Sometimes though, we get one better… i.e. an entire TV series adapted from the story. Here are five films receiving a TV adaptation series by 2021.
Lord of the Rings
J R R Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy will be coming to the small screen for the first time, in the near future. Amazon has reportedly paid £250 million for the rights and will air it on their platform.
The Beach
The paradise island thriller is reported to be coming back to our screens in the form of a TV adaptation. Amy Seimetz is working on the project and is said to be planning a prequel to the events of the movie.
Watchmen
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the 2009 action movie has since become something of a cult classic. The series is set to air on HBO, so we have high hopes that it will follow in the high-status footsteps of Chernobyl and Game of Thrones.
The Dark Crystal
The Dark Crystal TV adaptation will land on Netflix August 30. Starring the likes of Taron Egerton, Lena Headey, and Helena Bonham Carter, the 1982 dark fantasy film will receive an A-list makeover.
Gremlins
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will take place in 1920’s China and is due to land later this year. Intrigued? We know we are.
