5 Anticipated “Game of Thrones” Spin-Offs Become 4

It has been announced that one of the Game of Thrones spin-off series has been cancelled.

Despite the eighth upcoming season of Game of Thrones being the last, five spin off shows were confirmed.

“We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA last week, but by the time I left we had five,” said creator, George RR Martin. “We have added a fifth writer to the original four.”

“Every one of the concepts under discussion is a prequel, rather than a sequel,” he added. “Some may not even be set on Westeros. Rather than ‘spinoff’ or ‘prequel’, however, I prefer the term ‘successor show’. That’s what I’ve been calling them.”

One of these shows, however, has been scrapped, meaning there will be only four of these ‘successor shows.’

“One of [the prequels] has been shelved,” Martin revealed. “But that does not mean the others are dead.  Three more Game of Thrones prequels, set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, remain in active development.

“Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come. We do have an entire world and tens of thousands of years of history to play with, after all. But this is television, so nothing is certain.”

Stay tuned for more Game of Thrones updates.
