Can we agree that the animal kingdom rocks it when it comes to funny videos and adorable gifs? So it seems only natural that movie directors hire animals to star in their films. Because who in their right minds would pass the opportunity to watch a feature film of pure fuzziness? We won’t!

We’ve compiled a short list of the best movies featuring animals out there. At least in our own respectable opinion (trust us on these ones, we’re scientists).

Babe (1995)

The comedy-drama film directed by Chris Noonan, tells the tale of a pig raised as livestock who wants to do the work of a sheepdog. If this cutie-pie won’t inspire you to quit eating bacon, you’re probably a lost cause.

101 Dalmatians (1996)

This American live-action film features the great Glenn Close as the demented Cruella de Vil. The iconic villain would do anything to snatch herself some cute puppies and turn them into a coat. A plausible plot, at least when you’re a kid.

Beethoven (1992)

Another comedy classic, this Brian Levant film features a dog that can play the piano. ‘Nuff said!

Free Willy (1993)

This family drama made a splash when it first hit movie theatres. The touching film features Jason James Richter, who plays a foster boy who befriends a captive orca.

Ratatouille (2007)

The one and only time you’ll think a rat in the kitchen is charming. Sigh, if only mice could always be this accommodating!
