Why Everyone is So Obsessed With “Game of Thrones”?

If you follow any social media or have even the slightest inkling about what’s going on in popular culture, you’ll know that the Game of Thrones series finale is pretty much the most exciting thing that will come out of 2019.

But why is everyone so obsessed?

For starters, watching Game of Thrones is not like watching ordinary television. No matter what’s going on, it rarely feels like you are watching a TV show and instead feels like you are looking through a magical window where everything is currently happening as you watch. This is largely down to the authenticity and attention to detail in every scene. The set and costume designers did an immaculate job ensuring that everyone and everything looked the part.

It also helps that none of the actors were huge Hollywood names prior to the show. In fact, the scene that most fans struggle with is the scene with Ed Sheeran and this is largely because his appearance breaks the illusion that the people you are watching are not paid actors, but real characters.

Furthermore, the storylines do not feel contrived which makes watching the show ridiculously exciting. It becomes clear from very early on in the series that everybody is expendable. When that character dies in season one, we quickly learned the hard way that no one, not even our favorite characters, will ever be safe. This makes every battle scene horrifically tense because the end result is always impossible to call.

Finally, the show is so richly detailed that a re-watch is always rewarding. It takes so much time to get to know each character and their backstories that by the time you have finished season 7, you’re ready to go back to season 1 and indulge in the stories with your new knowledge of the characters.

So yeah, aside from the incredible acting, direction, design and writing, these are some of the reasons why everyone is so obsessed with Game of Thrones. Also worth mentioning is…

  • The loveliness of Samuel Tarwell
  • The badass young lady that is Arya Stark
  • The fact there are dragons
  • Daenerys Targaryon’s inspiring journey
  • The wicked fight scenes
  • The freakin’ terrifying White Walkers
  • Wild Fire
  • The quit wit of the Queen of Thorns
  • All the times Tyrion puts Joffrey in his place
  • Bienne of Tarth and Jamie Lannister
  • The awesome architecture in King’s Landing
  • Jon Snow
