What We Do in the Shadows centers around three vampires living in Staten Island, “who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years,” and documents their everyday life.
The show stars Kayvan Novak as Nandor, great warrior and conqueror from the Ottoman Empire, Matt Berry as British dandy vampire Laszlo, and Natasia Demetriou as vampire Nadja, Laszlo’s love interest. Harvey Guillén joins as Nandor’s vampire servant Guillermo while Mark Proksch will play a day-walking energy vampire. The first season of the series will have 10 episodes, with Jemaine Clement serving as series creator and Jemaine Waititi and Paul Simms joining as executive producers.
What We Do in the Shadows movie was written, directed by, and starred Clement and Waititi, telling a story about the group of vampires living together in New Zealand’s capital Wellington. The movie ended up being a huge critical success, while earning $6.9 million at the box office compared to $1.6 million budget. Spinoff sequel, focusing on the werewolves depicted in the movie, was in the works but these plans ended up being canceled.
