Netflix dropped the first trailer for its adaptation of the Broadway play American Son.
The clip was unveiled Sunday during the Emmys, giving the public its first look at the film, which has its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
American Son stars Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale, who will reprise their roles as an estranged couple who are looking for their missing 18-year-old son (the two appeared in the 2018 Broadway production).
Washington told Entertainment Weekly of her character: “This character is like the un-Olivia Pope. She’s about as different from Olivia Pope as you can possibly get, and I think that’s probably why I was drawn to her. She was such a huge challenge for me as an actress to spend seven or eight years playing somebody and then try to have the pendulum swing in the total opposite direction. She is not — there is no Prada in this one folks, sorry.”
Play director and Tony Award winner Kenny Leon also helms the film.
American Son is set to premiere on November 1 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
