Viola Davis will star in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom for Netflix.

The streaming giant announced last week that Davis will star opposite Chadwick Boseman in its upcoming adaptation of the award-winning play by August Wilson.

Emmy winner Glynn Turman, Tony and Olivier nominee Colman Domingo and Michael Potts also star.

The story follows Ma Rainey, a blues singer in 1927 Chicago, as she records her new album. Then tensions boil over between her, her white agent and producer and her bandmates.

George C. Wolfe is set to direct from a script by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Denzel Washington is producing alongside Todd Black and Dany Wolf. Constanza Romero is executive producing. Branford Marsalis has been set as the composer.

David and Washington have previously worked together on the 2010 revival of Wilson’s Fences on Broadway.

In 2016, Washington directed and starred alongside Davis in the acclaimed film adaptation, for which Davis won an Academy Award.
