Top 5 ‘Guilty Pleasure’ Spoof Movies

Amanda Abbington, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Shaun Dooley, Dean Lennox Kelly, Ralf Little, Dylan Moran, Simon Pegg, and Miranda Raison in "Shaun of the Dead"

Ok, so not all of these movies are entirely guilty and some of them are actually rated pretty highly on IMDB. Still, there is something guilty about enjoying a spoof movie, especially when they bombastically satire an already pretty cringey horror franchise.

Airplane!

Airplane! is a spoof which satirizes the disaster film genre. It particularly parodies Zero Hour! (1957) from which it borrows the plot and the central character. The movie is known for its tongue-in-cheek slap-stick comedy and was voted number one in Empire’s The 50 Funniest Comedies Ever poll.

This Is Spinal Tap

This is Spinal Tap is the king of the ‘mockumentary.’ It portrays the hardships of struggling British metal band ‘Spinal Tap’ and satirizes the pretension and bombast of rock star culture. It is one of the most popularly quoted movies of all time.

Life of Brian

Brian spends his life being mistaken for the Messiah. It’s controversial and sacrilegious but very, very funny.

Shaun of the Dead

The zombie movie trend was turned on its head by Shaun of the Dead, which featured Simon Pegg as a boring loser who is pretty surprised when the zombie apocalypse arises in London and interferes with his drinking plans.

Scary Movie III

I have a soft spot for the entire Scary Movie franchise, but I think number 3 is my favorite because it turns the spine-chilling plot of The Ring into something comically laughable.
