It’s been over 20 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer first appeared on our screens, but old and new fans alike still rate the show highly today. In honor of the show’s timeless appeal, here’s a list of our top 5 favorite Buffy villains.

5. Gnarl. Season 7, Episode 3.

He might not be the most fun Buffy villain, but Gnarl makes it into the list on the creepy factor alone. The decrepit demon gets his kicks from slowly peeling off his victim’s skin with his nails and eating it… while his victim is still alive.

4. The Gentleman. Season 4, Episode 10.

The Gentleman is one of the more avant-guard characters in Buffy. They steal the voices of a town so that no one can hear their victims scream. The big creepy smiles and black and white aesthetic make them one of the more nightmarish villains.

3. Sweet. Season 6, Episode 7.

Once More with Feeling or what most of us know as “the musical episode” is a fan favorite and all-singing, all-dancing sassy demon “Sweet” has to make it on the list. Intent on taking Dawn back to hell to be his wife, he decides, in the end, to let the rules slide when he realizes it was really Xander who summoned him.

2. Dark Willow. Season 6.

It shocked us all when sweet and innocent Willow, sent into a wild rage after her girlfriend’s death, becomes evil. After turning Tara’s murderer literally inside out, Dark Willow, mad with power, decides to take down the world. She looks pretty cool while she is doing it though.

1. Spike and Drusilla. Season 2.

We love the ‘Team Buffy’ Spike in the later seasons, but as a duo, you can’t get much cooler than Spike and Drusilla. Drusilla is one of the darker and more deranged vampires and Spike is the epitome of a badass. We’re just glad Joss Whedon didn’t kill of Spike at the end of Season 2 like he’d originally planned.
