A new Ghostbusters movie is in the works and don’t worry, it’s in safe hands.

It has been confirmed that a sequel to the cult classic is finally on its way. If you are rightly protective over the charming masterpiece of a movie, then do not fear. It will be directed by none other than Jason Reitman – aka the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original.

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6 years old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Jason Reitman told Entertainment Weekly.

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

With regards to the plot and introduction of new characters, Reitman is keeping it all very hush at the moment.

“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present,” he teased. “We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”

And just to confirm, this will be a sequel of the original Ghostbusters and will have nothing to do with the 2016 all-female remake.

“I have so much respect for what Paul [Feig, the director] created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film,” Reitman stressed.

The Ghostbusters sequel will be with us in the summer of 2020.
