“The Lovebirds” Lands At Netflix

Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae in "The Lovebirds"

It’s official: movies are being pulled from theaters and moving straight to digital release due to Coronavirus.

The Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae comedy The Lovebirds is the first movie to land at Netflix. The feature from Paramount marks the first time that a studio movie loses its theatrical release and will head straight to a streaming platform.

News of a digital launch rather than a theatrical release isn’t much of a surprise, with movies now heading into the home faster than ever before including Sonic the Hedgehog, The Invisible Man, Onward, I Still Believe, Bloodshot, The Hunt, Emma, Birds of Prey and more.

The Lovebirds, directed by Michael Showalter, follows Nanjiani and Rae as a couple who experience a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery.
