The post “Dune: Part Two” Rides Its Way to a $178.5 Million Worldwide Opening appeared first on Entertainment For Us.
]]>Dune: Part Two hit the theatres on March 1, after its release date was pushed in the face of labor disputes in Hollywood last year. With $81.5 million grossed domestically and an additional $97 million in other territories, it topped the box office with a massive $178.5 million worldwide opening.
Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein, described Dune: Part Two as a cultural moment and praised it for managing to capture the marketplace all around the globe.
“Audiences are responding to the combination of Denis Villeneuve’s ability to tell a story in an extraordinary way and the extraordinary cast. This is a moment for Timothée Chalamet,” Goldstein told Variety.
Dune: Part Two is a huge hit on premium format screens, such as IMAX, and Villeneuve’s decision to film it with IMAX cameras certainly paid off. IMAX screenings accounted for $18.5 million of domestic ticket sales, representing 23% of the market share, and the company’s CEO Rich Gelfond said “The only reason it wasn’t higher is we ran out of seats,” adding they’ve been sold out for weeks in advance.

]]>The only two movies that the latest Spider-Man failed to surpass also hail from MCU—Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The film’s worldwide total consists of $253 million grossed in the United States and Canada and $334.2 million in other territories.
Tom Rothman, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures, said they’re deeply grateful to the fabulous talent that produced such a landmark film.
“This weekend’s historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve,” said Rothman in a statement.
Spider-Man: No Way Home had its worldwide premiere on December 17th, and it saw Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei return to their roles from the previous Spider-Man movies. It also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, and it effectively introduced the concept of the multiverse by bringing back some of the characters who appeared in the previous installments of the Spider-Man film series.

]]>Directed by Euphoria’s Sam Levinson, this quarantine-shot, black & white drama will give us a poignant take on modern love, and here’s what the official logline has to say about it:
“A filmmaker returns home with his girlfriend following a celebratory movie premiere as he awaits what’s sure to be an imminent critical and financial success. The evening suddenly takes a turn as revelations about their relationships begin to surface, testing the strength of their love.”
Zendaya and Levinson proved they’re a match made in heaven with their series Euphoria. After the production of this show was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they started working on a project they could easily shoot under the current safety protocols. John David Washington came on board, and Malcolm & Marie was born.
This project will have a brief theatrical run in limited theaters this month, before becoming available to Netflix subscribers on February 5th.
