After releasing its first trailer way back in October 2017, a new trailer for The New Mutants is finally here.

The long-delayed X-Men superhero horror movie based on the X-Men comics of the same name follows “five mutant teenagers in the confines of a secret psychiatric facility. Placed there against their will for monitoring, they face the sins of their past when strange, seemingly supernatural occurrences emerge.”

The film’s director Josh Boone described the film as “a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe.”

The film stars Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Charlie Heaton as the five young mutants.

The New Mutants hits theaters April 3. Watch the official trailer below.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is officially the biggest flop of the franchise.

Fans of the X-Men movies seemed delighted by the decision to reintroduce the Phoenix to the franchise. Fans of Game of Thrones were equally delighted to learn that Sophie Turner (i.e. Sansa Stark) would be reprising the role of Jean Gray.

Although the hype for the feature was considerable, the movie has fallen short of expectations. The film is predicted to collect just $34 million at its opening weekend in the box office. For a little comparison, X-Men: The Last Stand grossed $234,362,462 at the box office in total and Deadpool earned an impressive $363,070,709.

The poor opening places Dark Phoenix at the bottom of the ranking for opening weekends in the X-Men franchise. As it stands, the film is rated 20% on Rotten Tomatoes and it looks like the $200 million budget the film had is not going to be met by international audiences either.

Still, if you want to give the movie a shot anyway, it is in cinemas now.

Stan Lee has made an impressive 45 cameos. In chronological order, here are our 10 favorites.

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

Lee looks rather perturbed when Jean Grey changes the direction of his hose with her telekinesis.

Iron Man (2008)

Tony Stark mistakes Lee for Hugh Hefner.

Thor (2011)

Lee attempts to move Thor’s hammer with his pickup truck. Unfortunately, he has no luck.

Avengers (2012)

In a scene which seems reminiscent of Magneto in the post-credit scene of the X-Men sequel, Lee pops up in a newsreel playing chess in the park. He is being interviewed and says: “Superheroes in New York? Give me a break.” Some sneaky meta-humour there.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Spider-Man and the Lizard take their epic fight into the school library and books and shelves fly everywhere. Lee stands obliviously in the foreground, enjoying a piece of classical music which the audience enjoys with him, before the violent and chaotic crashes return.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Rocket catches him flirting with a young woman through his spy gadget.

Deadpool (2016)

Lee appears as an emcee as a strip club. We weren’t sure if we were more shocked or amused.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

As all the world’s nuclear weapons are launched into space, Stan Lee stands next to Joan, his real life wife, watching.

Doctor Strange (2016)

During the fight scene between Dr Strange, Mardo and Kaecilius, Lee can be spotted on a bus in NYC reading a copy of “The Doors of Perception.” More sneaky meta-humour.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Lee made an appearance in Infinity War as Peter Parker’s cynical bus driver.

Movie sequels are, in many ways, Hollywood’s attempt to squeeze every penny they can from their original investments. They often just get thrown out there while moviegoers still remember the original, which often ends up with a disappointment.

But sometimes, a sequel will actually manage to improve the original creation. Be it a better budget, better technology or just a more confident vision, there are sequels that even give you more value for your money.

In order to show you that there are follow-ups that are definitely worth your time, we prepared a list of top 10 sequels that are better than the original.

X-Men 2 (2003)
Sequel to: X-Men (2000)

X-Men franchise is surely one of the best superhero franchises out there. The sequel manages to bring even more energy to the plot and to introduce more interesting characters. The action is still there as Mutant Academy is under attack by military forces, and the X-Men try to find the assassin who attempted to kill President.

Evil Dead II (1987)
Sequel to: Evil Dead (1981)

The first one was a classic, the second one was a masterpiece. Evil Dead II is a sequel that holds a healthy mixture of comedy, violence, blood, and gore as a group of strangers find themselves shacked up in a cabin while mayhem continues outside.

Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981)
Sequel to: Friday The 13th (1980)

The original established this slasher franchise, but the sequel went a step further and introduced one of the most famous and notorious serial killers of all time, Jason Voorhees, and his hockey mask. The dark atmosphere, the action, the blood and gore, everything is there for a bigger and better sequel.

Toy Story 2 (1999)
Sequel to: Toy Story (1995)

We also have animated movies on our list of top 10 sequels that are better than the original. The first Toy Story movie is great, but the sequel improves on everything and gives that emotional bond with the toys. When Woody is stolen by a toy collector, Buzz and his friends embark on a rescue mission.

Blade II (2002)
Sequel to: Blade (1998)

The first Blade movie stars Wesley Snipes as a superhero who fights vampires. The role made him famous, but the sequel made him a legend. Forming an unusual alliance with the vampires he despises, he has to stop the Reapers, a more terrifying threat to the world.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
Sequel to: Star Trek: The Motion Picture

The first Star Trek movie was a bit disappointing but still a box office success. The sequel, however, brings everything fans have hoped for. Admiral Kirk must stop Khan Noonien Singh, his old nemesis, from using ultimate weapon to dominate the galaxy. Action, emotions, and space voyage were all balanced nicely for a classical masterpiece.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Sequel to: Spider-Man (2002)

The original did a good job in setting up the world of Spider-Man and Peter Parker. The sequel did all that plus upped the action, as well as gave us one of the most iconic villains in the superhero world, Dr. Otto Octavius.

The Dark Knight (2009)
Sequel to: Batman Begins (2005)

Christopher Nolan had a tough job of beating his first movie. But with the help of Heath Ledger’s brilliant performance as The Joker, this sequel can be called a worthy successor. Batman’s psychological and physical abilities will be put to the test as Joker wreaks havoc on Gotham.

Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Sequel to: Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)

The original has set some high standards and precedents, but the sequel brought more action, as rebels where overpowered by the Empire forces on planet Hoth. Relations between characters were deepened and we were given a deeper look into the Star Wars universe.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Sequel to: The Terminator (1984)

We end our list of top 10 sequels that are better than the original with an absolute all-time classic. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in his iconic role of the Terminator. With a better budget and the initial idea, James Cameron managed to overcome the original. Terminator is now on a mission to save Sarah Connor’s son, John Connor, from a powerful and more advanced cyborg.

The X-Men spin-off Legion has been renewed for a third season.

FX announced on Friday that it has commissioned a third season of the show from Noah Hawley.

Based on a comic from Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, the spin-off series is set in the X-Men universe and follows David Haller (Dan Stevens), the son of Professor Charles Xavier, into his schizophrenic mind as he tries to conquer his own powers while battling the demonic Shadow King (Navid Negahban). The show has received 91% on Rotting Tomatoes and is of a different flavor to other superhero dramas.

Eric Schrier, the FX original programming president asserted that:

Legion has redefined the superhero drama and exceeded all expectations as the intensity and revelation build through the second season,” he said. “We are incredibly proud of Noah Hawley’s achievement and are honored to continue the series as it pushes the boundaries of conventional television storytelling.”

“We are also grateful for the contributions of our executive producers John Cameron, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Jeph Loeb with Marvel Television, as well as our outstanding cast and crew of this groundbreaking show,” he added.

The new season will air in 2019.

The Marvel universe has brought us superheroes of every variety, but this list is in honor of the superwomen. If you’re wondering why Captain Marvel didn’t make it on the list, it’s because the list is limited to Marvel movies released to date.

Storm

We live in an age of darkness. A world full of fear, hate, and intolerance. But in every age, there are those who fight against it.

Storm is a badass X-men mutant who can control the weather with her mind.

Black Widow

We love Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of the Avenger Black Widow. She never got her own movie, but we got a glimpse of her backstory in Age of Ultron. Despite her traumatic past, she chose the side of good and is an invaluable member of the Avengers.

Gamora

Gamora is something of a vigilante with the greater good in mind. She manages to make green look sexy and has us green with envy at her fighting skills and ice cool attitude.

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch is an X-Men mutant who crossed over to join the Avengers with her brother, Quick Silver. She is arguably one of the most able Avengers and a powerful sorceress.

Jean Grey/Phoenix

“We come into this world alone and we leave the same way. The time we spent in between – time spent alive, sharing, learning together… is all that makes life worth living.”

Jean Grey is one of the most powerful mutants in the X-Men universe and struggles to fight the forces of the Dark Phoenix in X-Men 3. Next year, Fox are releasing X-Men: Dark Phoenix, so we will hopefully learn even more about the character and her backstory.

Earlier this week, Fox announced it will be pushing back the X-Men spin-offs Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants.

The reason is that the studio will be moving forward Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Rami Malek, best known for his role in Mr Robot. The biopic was previously scheduled for December 25th but will now debut on November 2nd.

Dexter Fletcher is directing Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired from the show for three days of repeated absences which halted production. This firing isn’t the only setback that the movie has faced. Sacha Baron Cohen quit the project over disputes with Bryan May and Roger Taylor from Queen, hence why Malek took over.

The two Marvel spin-offs were actually originally scheduled to launch this year in April and November. The New Mutants has now been pushed all the way back to August 2nd 2019. The film is being directed by Josh Boone and stars a whole new set of young mutants.

Dark Phoenix has also been pushed back to 2019, but earlier in the year on Valentines Day. The movie will revolve around Jean Grey and Phoenix and will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence among other popular names from the X-Men franchise.

We love our comic book heroes, but there is something even more alluring about the supervillains. Perhaps it is the fact they have cooler costumes or perhaps there is something darkly relatable and appealing about these rebellious bad guys. Either way, here are ten of our favorites.

10. Harley Quinn (Batman)

A villain who does whatever the hell she feels like. We loved Margot Robbie’s portrayal in Suicide Squad.

9. Ozymandis (The Watchmen)

DC has a tendency to blur the lines between black and white/good and evil. Ozymandis epitomizes this in his character.

8. Loki (Thor)

He’s been around in mythology for centuries but we love Tom Hiddleston’s punky and rightly mischievous version of Loki.

7. Thanos (Guardians of The Galaxy)

We haven’t seen much of him yet, but we can’t wait to see him attempt to destroy half the universe in Avengers: Infinity War. Big talk from a pretty big guy.

6. Venom (Spider-Man)

Everyone has a dark side, even Spider-Man.

5. Mystique (X-Men)

She alternates between sides but Mystique’s shapeshifting powers make her a powerful ally.

4. Magneto (X-Men)

Magneto is a great villain and a hero from where he’s standing.

3. Catwoman (Batman)

She’s cool, she’s sexy and she doesn’t follow the rules.

2. Hela (Thor)

We loved Hela in Thor: Ragnarok. Her costume was amazing and she effortlessly crushed Thor’s hammer.

1. The Joker (Batman)

“Whatever doesn’t kill you, simply makes you stranger…” An utter nutter who scarily sometimes makes worrying sense… in an insane kind of way.

We undoubtedly love our movie heroes, but there are some movie villains that just make us love them although they are doing awful things. The villains in the movies often have some background story which makes us admit that they are right, makes us sympathize with them, but on the other side, they are often scary and creepy. Sometimes the villains even steal the show from the main protagonist, leaving you in mesmerized by their characters. Today we brought you a list of the top 10 best movie villains to tell you our favorites. If you think we missed some, don’t hesitate to tell us.

10. Jack Torrance – The Shining

Played by Jack Nicholson, Jack Torrance is a suburban husband and father, but also The Overlook Hotel’s winter caretaker. Another side of his personality is that he is a psycho and murder and the king of creepy.

9. Norman Bates – Psycho

At first glance, he seems like a nice motelier, mama’s boy, but once the mask is pulled away we can see that it’s only madness beneath it. The famous Psycho scene of the shower curtain ripping, screeching sound and a knife lurching is iconic and it’s all thanks to Hitchcock’s brilliant creation of this man – Norman Bates (played by Anthony Perkins).

8. Hannibal Lecter – The Silence of the Lambs

The iconic performance of Anthony Hopkins showed how effective a villain can be when presented as calm, intelligent but terrifying. Hannibal is a wolf in sheep’s clothing, he is a charming man of high taste. Too bad that taste is in the human brains.

7. Agent Smith – Matrix

Black suit, dark sunglasses and an emotionless face on this man have the one and only purpose: to stop the rebellion. Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) is just an Al program in a virtual reality, designed as a human-hating weapon in the ultimate Man vs. Machines war.

6. Jigsaw Killer – Saw

Portrayed by Tobin Bell, Jigsaw is a cruel character who tests the other’s willingness to live through a psychopathic set of games. His victims seem like they don’t appreciate the life as much as they should, so he puts them into traps where they need to fight for their bare life. Do you want to play a game?

5. Loki – The Avengers

This supervillain has it all: a life story where he was kidnapped and raised by the god, he feels betrayed and he thinks he is doing good. While his brother Thor got the muscles and strength, Loki (Thomas Hiddleston) got the brains. He is charismatic, exciting, witty and keeps Marvel fans to want only more of him on the big screen.

4. Magneto – X-Men

Erik Magnus Lehnsherr (played by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender) is cruel, violent and dangerous, but if you know the story of how his parents were killed in the holocaust and he had to survive by himself as a mutant chased by humans, maybe his idea of how two sapient species can’t live in the same world doesn’t sound so bad. He is so persuasive that you can hardly help yourself not to stand on his side.

3. Lord Voldemort – Harry Potter

Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) was born as Tom Marvolo Riddle and he is the most powerful Dark Wizard, so powerful that he was just one step away from conquering the wizarding world before Harry Potter stopped him. From the beginning to the end of the franchise, Voldemort embodied the perfect evil, he is so cruel that no-one dares to say his name, except his biggest enemy – Harry Potter.

2. Darth Vader – Star Wars

This iconic villain is the face of Star Wars. He was born in slavery, he joined the Jedi Order that made him one of the most powerful Jedi ever, but turned to the dark side of the force. He was supposed to be the chosen one, but he used his powers to destroy every Jedi alive. Among the fans of the franchise, he became even more popular than the heroes in the Star Wars universe, so there is no wonder he is one of the best movie villains ever.

1. The Joker – Batman: The Dark Knight

Casting Heath Ledger as one of the biggest Batman’s enemy got so much disapproval from the fans, but Ledger proved them wrong. He brought a new life to the Joker, making him maniacal and twisted psychopath, purely cruel, dangerous supervillain. Ledger’s performance was the only one ever to bring an Oscar to a superhero movie character, and got etched into our mid forever and got him at the top of our list of best movie villains.

The new X-men movie follows the story of five young mutants held in a secret facility against their will. As it turns out, the facility is not a hospital but seems to in fact be something of a haunted house from which they are desperately trying to escape.

Our screens have been filled with shiny, exciting superhero movies the last few years but New Mutants is a superhero movie of a different variety. Like Logan, the movie looks like it will focus less on the battle between good and evil and more on the struggle with the grey area that lies between and the struggle the mutant’s face with their own dark past. Although not much has been given away yet, the trailer suggests that the movie will be as much of a horror as it will be of the superhero genre.

As the title suggests, the movie will feature an entirely new set of mutants with their own powers. Rumors report, however, that James McAvoy will be featuring as Charles Xavier, making his fourth appearance in the franchise.

The release date of the movie has been delayed to February 2019, but it looks like it will be worth the wait. Could New Mutants really be the first X-men horror movie?
