Fox Pushes Back X-Men Spin-Offs

Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Earlier this week, Fox announced it will be pushing back the X-Men spin-offs Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants.

The reason is that the studio will be moving forward Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Rami Malek, best known for his role in Mr Robot. The biopic was previously scheduled for December 25th but will now debut on November 2nd.

Dexter Fletcher is directing Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired from the show for three days of repeated absences which halted production. This firing isn’t the only setback that the movie has faced. Sacha Baron Cohen quit the project over disputes with Bryan May and Roger Taylor from Queen, hence why Malek took over.

The two Marvel spin-offs were actually originally scheduled to launch this year in April and November. The New Mutants has now been pushed all the way back to August 2nd 2019. The film is being directed by Josh Boone and stars a whole new set of young mutants.

Dark Phoenix has also been pushed back to 2019, but earlier in the year on Valentines Day. The movie will revolve around Jean Grey and Phoenix and will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence among other popular names from the X-Men franchise.
