]]>The Holdovers, Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Barbie, American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest were also in the running for the best picture award, but none of them could stand their ground to Oppenheimer. In addition to winning best picture award, Christopher Nolan was also named the best director for the first time.
Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. collected acting Oscars for best actor and best supporting actor, respectively. They were joined by Poor Things’ Emma Stone (best actress) and The Holdovers’ Da’Vine Joy Randolph (best supporting actress).
Oppenheimer did pretty well in the technical categories, as well, and collected three more trophies – best original score, best cinematography, and best film editing. Poor Things was also one of the major winners with four awards, while The Zone of Interest collected two, including best international feature film.
The 96th Academy Awards took place at Los Angeles’ iconic Dolby Theatre on March 10, with Jimmy Kimmel returning to host for the fourth time.

]]>Oppenheimer will be competing alongside Poor Things and Flower Moon for the coveted best picture trophy, where the list of contenders also includes American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest.
All three films are also in the running for the best director award, along with Anatomy of a Fall (Justine Triet) and The Zone of Interest (Jonathan Glazer).
Oppenheimer also received three nods on the acting side, thanks to its stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr., in addition to competing in multiple technical categories, such as best cinematography, best film editing, and best sound.
The list of major nominees also includes Netflix’s musical biopic Maestro with seven nods, and the summer blockbuster Barbie with eight – which shockingly didn’t receive nominations for best director (Greta Gerwig) and best leading actress (Margot Robbie).
The 96th Academy Awards are coming back in style on March 10, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting ABC’s live ceremony from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

]]>Everything Everywhere was up against The Banshees of Inisherin, Tár, and The Fabelmans in the best picture race, but it managed to overcome tough competition. Its producers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert picked up additional two awards—best director and best original screenplay.
Everything Everywhere was also the biggest winner on the acting front, and Michelle Yeoh’s win was especially memorable since she became the first Asian woman to win best actress. Her co-stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis dominated the supporting acting categories, while Brendan Fraser won a long-awaited best actor Oscar for The Whale.
All Quiet on the Western Front was the second biggest winner of the night, after coming out victorious in four out of nine categories it was nominated for. It won awards for best international feature film, original score, production design, and cinematography.
The 95th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, with Jimmy Kimmel returning as the ceremony’s host for the third time.

In addition to being nominated for best picture as the film’s producers, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are also in the running for best director and best original screenplay. The film’s cast scored a whooping four nominations, thanks to Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Stephanie Hsu.
The domination of Everything Everywhere All At Once was easy to predict, but some of the nominations took us by surprise. Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie) and Ana de Armas (Blonde) made it to the crowded best actress field, while Brian Tyree Henry received the best supporting actor nod for Causeway.

]]>CODA had to face some tough competition in the best picture category, including The Power of the Dog and Belfast, but it managed to come out victorious against all odds. Its victory is quite historic since it’s the first streaming film and the first film with a predominately deaf cast in leading roles to over pick up the biggest award of the night at the Oscars.
CODA’s victory comes as a shocker because The Power of the Dog entered the race as a major front-runner. It was nominated for 12 awards, but only won one—best director for Jane Campion. It lost all of its technical awards to Dune, which walked away with six statuettes at the end of the night.
As for awards in acting categories, they all went to clear favorites. Will Smith won best actor for King Richard), Jessica Chastain was crowned as the best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, while Troy Kotsur (CODA) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) came out victorious in supporting categories.
The 94th Academy Award returned to LA’s Dolby Theatre on March 27 with Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes sharing the hosting duties.

]]>Netflix’s western drama broke several major records in its wake. It became the first film by a female director to receive over ten nominations. Jane Campion also made history as the first woman to receive directing Oscar nomination more than once. The Power of the Dog will be in the running in several acting categories, as well, with its main stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee all receiving nominations.
Dune also had a great showing with a total of 10 nominations, and it will face The Power of the Dog in the best picture category. Belfast and West Side Story are also in the running with seven nominations each. Don’t Look Up, CODA, Drive My Car, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, and Nightmare Alley rounded up the list of best picture nominees.
The 94th Academy Awards are coming back to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27th, and the host of the ceremony is yet to be announced.

]]>Nomadland managed to beat the likes of Minari and The Trial of the Chicago 7 to win the best picture Oscar, but this wasn’t its only big victory of the night. Frances McDormand won her third best actress Oscar for her performance in this movie, while Chloé Zhao made history as the second woman to collect the trophy for the best director.
Anthony Hopkins made history with The Father, as the oldest person to be rewarded with the best actor Oscar. Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari) collected the trophies for their supporting performances.
The Father and Judas and the Black Messiah were amongst the movies, with a total of two awards won, together with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Sound of Metal, Soul, and Mank. The list of major winners also included Promising Young Woman (best original screenplay) and Another Round (best international feature film).
The scaled-down 93rd Academy Awards ceremony took place at Los Angeles’ Union Station and Dolby Theatre on April 25th.

]]>David Fincher’s black and white film about the making of Citizen Kane is one of the movies nominated for the best picture award. The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 are also in the running.
All of these films, with the exception of Promising Young Woman, scored a total of six nominations. Emerald Fennell’s black comedy is in the running for five awards, and so is Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which missed out on the best picture nomination.
Fennell also made history alongside Chloé Zhao by receiving a nomination for the best director. This is the first time that two women are in the running in this category at the same time, and Zhao is the first woman of color to ever be nominated for this award.
After the delay caused by the ongoing global pandemic, the 93rd Academy Awards will take place on April 25th. The Academy representatives previously told Variety that an in-person telecast will happen, but we’re yet to learn the details about its format.

The thriller Parasite proved to be the star of the festival (sorry, Quentin Tarantino), claiming the main prize at the prestigious event — the coveted Palme d’Or.
Bong Joon-ho’s film has been regarded as one of the best of the year, with a synopsis that reads:
“Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims’ sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. But this new ecosystem is fragile, and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims’ newfound comfort.”
Becoming the very first Korean movie to receive the Palme d’Or, it is expected to be a shoe-in as South Korea’s submission for Beat Foreign Language film at next year’s Academy Awards.
But the film will also be coming to western cinemas.
Indie and foreign film distributor Neon bought US rights to the movie prior to its showing at Cannes, and now plans to release Parasite in theaters on October 11th at the height of Oscar season.

]]>DiCaprio isn’t the only talented actor overdue on Academy Award. Here are other actors who you might be surprised to learn have never won their category.
Bradley Cooper didn’t win the Oscar this year for A Star Is Born because unfortunately, Rami Malek’s performance was simply sensational. He also didn’t win for his superb performances in Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle.
Tom Cruise is one of the most well-known names in the movie industry but the actor has never won an Oscar and has only been nominated three times.
Johnny Depp has played pretty much every role imaginable but he seems to be praised highly for his killer cheekbones and less so his acting skills.
Jake Gyllenhaal is another actor who has been appearing an awful lot on our screen since we fell in love with him in Donnie Darko. The star has only been nominated once.
Matt Damon is an incredibly talented actor and has given memorable performances in popular films like The Martian and Good Will Hunting. He has never won an Oscar though.
Samuel L. Jackson has appeared in over 100 films and has only ever been nominated once. This was Pulp Fiction and quite frankly, he stole the show so we are not sure what the Academy are playing at.
So many opportunities the academy had to reward Pitt, we stopped counting…

]]>The Holdovers, Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Barbie, American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest were also in the running for the best picture award, but none of them could stand their ground to Oppenheimer. In addition to winning best picture award, Christopher Nolan was also named the best director for the first time.
Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. collected acting Oscars for best actor and best supporting actor, respectively. They were joined by Poor Things’ Emma Stone (best actress) and The Holdovers’ Da’Vine Joy Randolph (best supporting actress).

]]>Oppenheimer will be competing alongside Poor Things and Flower Moon for the coveted best picture trophy, where the list of contenders also includes American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest.
All three films are also in the running for the best director award, along with Anatomy of a Fall (Justine Triet) and The Zone of Interest (Jonathan Glazer).
Oppenheimer also received three nods on the acting side, thanks to its stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr., in addition to competing in multiple technical categories, such as best cinematography, best film editing, and best sound.
The list of major nominees also includes Netflix’s musical biopic Maestro with seven nods, and the summer blockbuster Barbie with eight – which shockingly didn’t receive nominations for best director (Greta Gerwig) and best leading actress (Margot Robbie).
The 96th Academy Awards are coming back in style on March 10, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting ABC’s live ceremony from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

]]>Everything Everywhere was up against The Banshees of Inisherin, Tár, and The Fabelmans in the best picture race, but it managed to overcome tough competition. Its producers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert picked up additional two awards—best director and best original screenplay.
Everything Everywhere was also the biggest winner on the acting front, and Michelle Yeoh’s win was especially memorable since she became the first Asian woman to win best actress. Her co-stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis dominated the supporting acting categories, while Brendan Fraser won a long-awaited best actor Oscar for The Whale.
All Quiet on the Western Front was the second biggest winner of the night, after coming out victorious in four out of nine categories it was nominated for. It won awards for best international feature film, original score, production design, and cinematography.
The 95th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, with Jimmy Kimmel returning as the ceremony’s host for the third time.

]]>All three movies are in the running for the best picture Oscar, and they’ll have to face tough competition in Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.
In addition to being nominated for best picture as the film’s producers, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are also in the running for best director and best original screenplay. The film’s cast scored a whooping four nominations, thanks to Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Stephanie Hsu.
The domination of Everything Everywhere All At Once was easy to predict, but some of the nominations took us by surprise. Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie) and Ana de Armas (Blonde) made it to the crowded best actress field, while Brian Tyree Henry received the best supporting actor nod for Causeway.

]]>CODA had to face some tough competition in the best picture category, including The Power of the Dog and Belfast, but it managed to come out victorious against all odds. Its victory is quite historic since it’s the first streaming film and the first film with a predominately deaf cast in leading roles to over pick up the biggest award of the night at the Oscars.
CODA’s victory comes as a shocker because The Power of the Dog entered the race as a major front-runner. It was nominated for 12 awards, but only won one—best director for Jane Campion. It lost all of its technical awards to Dune, which walked away with six statuettes at the end of the night.
As for awards in acting categories, they all went to clear favorites. Will Smith won best actor for King Richard), Jessica Chastain was crowned as the best actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, while Troy Kotsur (CODA) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) came out victorious in supporting categories.
The 94th Academy Award returned to LA’s Dolby Theatre on March 27 with Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes sharing the hosting duties.

]]>Nomadland managed to beat the likes of Minari and The Trial of the Chicago 7 to win the best picture Oscar, but this wasn’t its only big victory of the night. Frances McDormand won her third best actress Oscar for her performance in this movie, while Chloé Zhao made history as the second woman to collect the trophy for the best director.
Anthony Hopkins made history with The Father, as the oldest person to be rewarded with the best actor Oscar. Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari) collected the trophies for their supporting performances.
The Father and Judas and the Black Messiah were amongst the movies, with a total of two awards won, together with Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Sound of Metal, Soul, and Mank. The list of major winners also included Promising Young Woman (best original screenplay) and Another Round (best international feature film).
The scaled-down 93rd Academy Awards ceremony took place at Los Angeles’ Union Station and Dolby Theatre on April 25th.

]]>David Fincher’s black and white film about the making of Citizen Kane is one of the movies nominated for the best picture award. The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 are also in the running.
All of these films, with the exception of Promising Young Woman, scored a total of six nominations. Emerald Fennell’s black comedy is in the running for five awards, and so is Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which missed out on the best picture nomination.
Fennell also made history alongside Chloé Zhao by receiving a nomination for the best director. This is the first time that two women are in the running in this category at the same time, and Zhao is the first woman of color to ever be nominated for this award.
After the delay caused by the ongoing global pandemic, the 93rd Academy Awards will take place on April 25th. The Academy representatives previously told Variety that an in-person telecast will happen, but we’re yet to learn the details about its format.

The thriller Parasite proved to be the star of the festival (sorry, Quentin Tarantino), claiming the main prize at the prestigious event — the coveted Palme d’Or.
Bong Joon-ho’s film has been regarded as one of the best of the year, with a synopsis that reads:
“Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims’ sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. But this new ecosystem is fragile, and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims’ newfound comfort.”
Becoming the very first Korean movie to receive the Palme d’Or, it is expected to be a shoe-in as South Korea’s submission for Beat Foreign Language film at next year’s Academy Awards.
But the film will also be coming to western cinemas.
Indie and foreign film distributor Neon bought US rights to the movie prior to its showing at Cannes, and now plans to release Parasite in theaters on October 11th at the height of Oscar season.

]]>DiCaprio isn’t the only talented actor overdue on Academy Award. Here are other actors who you might be surprised to learn have never won their category.
Bradley Cooper didn’t win the Oscar this year for A Star Is Born because unfortunately, Rami Malek’s performance was simply sensational. He also didn’t win for his superb performances in Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle.
Tom Cruise is one of the most well-known names in the movie industry but the actor has never won an Oscar and has only been nominated three times.
Johnny Depp has played pretty much every role imaginable but he seems to be praised highly for his killer cheekbones and less so his acting skills.
Jake Gyllenhaal is another actor who has been appearing an awful lot on our screen since we fell in love with him in Donnie Darko. The star has only been nominated once.
Matt Damon is an incredibly talented actor and has given memorable performances in popular films like The Martian and Good Will Hunting. He has never won an Oscar though.
Samuel L. Jackson has appeared in over 100 films and has only ever been nominated once. This was Pulp Fiction and quite frankly, he stole the show so we are not sure what the Academy are playing at.
So many opportunities the academy had to reward Pitt, we stopped counting…
