Netflix has dropped the first official trailer for Raising Dion. The series based on the comic book by Dennis Liu is executive produced by Michael B. Jordan, who also stars in the series alongside Alisha Wainwright, Ja’Siah Young, and Jason Ritter.

“Raising Dion follows the story of a woman named Nicole (Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.”

Raising Dion also stars Jazmyn Simon as Nicole’s sister Kat, who’s described as “a wonderful and supportive aunt and sister, but has a hard time biting her tongue as she watches her sister make mistakes.”

Raising Dion is set to premiere on October 4.

Speaking at the “Produced By” conference in LA this weekend (June 8), Jordan said: “Starting in front of the camera, from the actor’s perspective, it’s all about the heart. It’s about wanting to create bodies of work and tell stories that will make people go home and think thoughts that will weigh heavily on their heart.”

Agreeing with Jordan, fellow panelist Alana Mayo said: “I think there is a sense of personal responsibility to represent our experience because that is not something you have consistently seen in films and television.

“It comes from a very organic and personal place, but we try to be mindful, once we find the story that inspires us, of how that can impact people that are going to see it and how we can add positive things to the cultural conversation.”

The conversation was held as part of the “Content With A Conscience: Social Impact Entertainment Across All Platforms” panel on Saturday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series titled, 61st Street, is being developed under the cable network’s new script-to-series model.

Set in present-day Chicago, the series follows Moses Johnson, a promising high school athlete, who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system. Taken by the police as a gang member, he soon finds himself in the eye of the storm as police and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong.

“Award-winning writer Peter Moffat’s 61st Street is a murder mystery, courtroom drama, and an examination of race in America wrapped up into one,” AMC programming president David Madden said. “Peter justly won acclaim for Criminal Justice, the British thriller which was remade by HBO as The Night Of, and in this case he’s partnered with extraordinary producers, the Outlier Society team of Michael B. Jordan and Alana Mayo. This is an emotional and audacious piece of drama that is as timely as television gets, and we are excited to put it into a writers’ room and see where the team takes it.”

61st Street was announced during AMC’s Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.

According to sources, Paramount is looking to make movies based on two novels from Tom Clancy, Rainbow Six and Without Remorse, both of which have John Clark as the main character. Adaptation of Without Remorse will be released first, serving as an origin story.

Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman will be overlooking the project and serve as an executive producer. The studio and Goldsman are currently looking into writers and directors for this film series.

Paramount is trying to make a movie about John Clark since 2012, when the studio announced the adaptation of Without Remorse for the first time, eyeing Venom star Tom Hardy as the lead. It is worth noting that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds was also in talks to play Clark back in 2017.

This won’t be the first time that we see John Clark on the big screen. The character was played by Willem Dafoe in 1994’s adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Clear and Present Danger novel, while Liev Schreiber took on the same role in 2002’s The Sum of All Fears.

The main character of Failsafe is a man named John Ravane, who had spent years tracking down and executing nanotech-enhances super soldiers.

After a decade, Ravane finds himself between the government, whom he does not trust, and the soldiers he once aimed to kill.

Jordan is set to produce alongside Alana Mayo, while Cole will handle the screenplay duties.

Jordan reportedly has not yet decided whether he will star in the production and will only make a decision once Cole’s final script arrives.

Failsafe was pitched following the immense successes of Black Panther and as a result, many potential suitors were keen on seeing what a reunion of Jordan and Cole could have in the offering.

Jordan is currently busy working with Creed 2.

The film is set in a society where writing is outlawed and follows Guy Montag, played by Michael B. Jordan, a fireman who has a duty to burn books. Montag is tasked to eradicate outlawed books and finds himself unhappy in the society which he had helped to create by allowing for the ban on books.

The book, written by Brad bury, is criticizing a possible future where people are absorbed by entertainment to such an extent that they do not care about what lies outside their screens.

The trailer literally shows books burning and the figurative fire of Guy’s initial fanaticism and the self-righteous fury of his supervisor Captain Beatty who is played by Michael Shannon. The trailer suggests that the film will be direct, angry and forceful.
