]]>“It’s a beautiful Gotham. What I would like to see someone tackle is what Batman looks like from that Gotham,” Phillips told Variety.
This project is not to be confused with the previously reported sequel (that could or could not be happening), and in any case, Phillips added that it definitely won’t be the one to make that movie.
“I’m not saying I’m going to do that. What was interesting to me about the inclusion of Batman in our movie was, ‘What kind of Batman does that Gotham make?’ That’s all I meant by that,” he said.
Last year’s Joker was the fourth of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics films to hit the $1 billion mark.

]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Joker sequel is in the works, with director Todd Phillips looking to extend his DC characters’ origin movies portfolio. Phillips reportedly is set to re-team with the film’s star Joaquin Phoenix on a follow-up to the original.
Joker is the fourth DC title to cross $1 billion mark following 2018’s Aquaman with $1.15 billion, 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises with $1.08 billion, and 2008’s The Dark Knight $1 billion.
The story was first published by THR on Wednesday. Warner Bros. has yet to comment on the report.
Warner Bros. also has Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, Matt Reeves’ The Batman, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Dwayne Johnson starring in Black Adam, and an Aquaman sequel in the works.

]]>The Todd Phillips’ directed film starring Joaquin Phoenix is set to break some box office records its opening weekend. Earning $13.3 million on Thursday night, and with Friday looking at an increased $39.8 million in North America, estimates are that Joker is heading for a record-breaking $90 million opening domestically and a worldwide opening between $188-$194 million.
This is the biggest preview number since The Lion King which premiered n July.
“Weeks of speculation as to Joker’s opening weekend performance and its status as one of the most talked about movies of the year have made the acclaimed (and controversial) film a must-see cinematic event,” Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said.
In addition to Phoenix, also starring in Joker is Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, and Marc Maron.

]]>The final trailer for the Todd Phillips-directed Joker film is here, and it seems that this version of the Batman villain origin story is a full-on horror movie.
The film stars three-time Oscar nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker. The film delves into the story of the DC villain, an unstable and struggling stand-up comedian who’s also at odds with society.
“It really came from this idea: what if you just did a comic-book movie differently?” Phillips said to Los Angeles Times. “We all grew up on these character studies and they’re few and far between nowadays. So it was like, ‘Let’s do a deep dive on one of these guys in a real way.’ No one is going to fly in it. No buildings are going to collapse. It’s just going to be on the ground, so to speak.”
Joker hits theaters October 4, 2019.

]]>Phillips took to Instagram to share a new image from the upcoming feature starring Joaquin Phoenix.
The image shows Phoenix looking into a mirror applying his Joker makeup. Phillips then responded to a fan who commented on the image asking for the film’s rating.
“It will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry,” he replied.
While Phillips seems quite sure that will be the film’s rating, the MPAA, which decides ratings in America, has yet to give the pic an official rating. If that is be the case, people under the age of 17 would not be able to watch it at the cinema without an adult accompanying them.
Phillips’ Joker will take us back to the villain’s origin story. The film follows stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck, whose failure drives him to insanity and puts him on the path to becoming the infamous psychopathic killer.
Joker will premiere on October 4th.

The Joker is one of the few villains who gets the spotlight over the superhero. In 1975, he actually received his own eponymous series. It only had nine issues, but it was still a big deal at the time.
