The final trailer for the Todd Phillips-directed Joker film is here, and it seems that this version of the Batman villain origin story is a full-on horror movie.
The film stars three-time Oscar nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker. The film delves into the story of the DC villain, an unstable and struggling stand-up comedian who’s also at odds with society.
“It really came from this idea: what if you just did a comic-book movie differently?” Phillips said to Los Angeles Times. “We all grew up on these character studies and they’re few and far between nowadays. So it was like, ‘Let’s do a deep dive on one of these guys in a real way.’ No one is going to fly in it. No buildings are going to collapse. It’s just going to be on the ground, so to speak.”
Joker hits theaters October 4, 2019.
