Box Office: “Joker” Heads For October Record Opening

Joker is officially dominating the box office. 

The Todd Phillips’ directed film starring Joaquin Phoenix is set to break some box office records its opening weekend.  Earning $13.3 million on Thursday night, and with Friday looking at an increased $39.8 million in North America, estimates are that Joker is heading for a record-breaking $90 million opening domestically and a worldwide opening between $188-$194 million.

This is the biggest preview number since The Lion King which premiered n July.

“Weeks of speculation as to Joker’s opening weekend performance and its status as one of the most talked about movies of the year have made the acclaimed (and controversial) film a must-see cinematic event,” Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said. 

In addition to Phoenix, also starring in Joker is Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, and Marc Maron.
