Spider-Man is officially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Not long after the announcement was made that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would be leaving MCU to move over to Sony exclusively, MCU has announced that Spider-Man will be returning to the Avengers fold. Fans were sure that Holland’s MCU exit was permanent but now, it seems that the two picture houses are able to work together again.

The news means that Holland will be back for a third Spider-Man movie. He will also likely appear in other Phase 4 Marvel films such as Thor: Love and Thunder.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” Marvel boss Kevin Feige said in the announcement.

“Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

Spider-Man 3 is scheduled for July 16, 2021.
