The 21st of the 25-episode season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy will now officially serve as the series’ season finale.

Grey’s Anatomy executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff confirmed that the last produced episode of the hit medical drama will serve as the series’ season 16 finale.

Vernoff provided some clarity on Twitter, confirming that the now season 16 closer will be a “satisfying” one.

“We will resume our storytelling in Season 17,” she wrote. “We are disappointed that we don’t get to complete our storytelling this season. The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale! It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year.”

In April 9 episode, Put on a Happy Face, “Link tries to convince Amelia to take it easy during the final stage of her pregnancy; Hayes asks Meredith a surprising question; Owen makes a shocking discovery.”
