The former James Bond star says it’s time for a woman to helm the British spy franchise.

Pierce Brosnan, who played the titular character in the ultra-successful franchise four times, thinks it’s time a woman gets the role of the suave spy.

“I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years. Get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter.

But Brosnan knows better than to expect a woman play Bond anytime soon.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis [current franchise producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli],” he said. “I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

A year ago, Broccoli told The Guardian that she thinks that Bond should remain male.

“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male. And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”

The next Bond film, the 25th installment titled No Time to Die is set for an April 2020 release.
