We’ve seen many amazing actors play Doctor Who over the years, and it’s always exciting to see a new star step into the iconic role. The next actor entrusted with this responsibility will be Ncuti Gatwa, best known for starring in the Netflix teen drama Sex Education.

Gatwa is following in the footsteps of David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker, who became the first female Time Lord in 2017. His casting is just as historic because this marks the first time the Doctor will be played by a black actor.

Gatwa’s casting isn’t the only thing that got us excited about the new season of Doctor Who. It will also mark the return of showrunner Russell T Davies, who’s often been credited for the show’s renaissance, and he couldn’t be more excited to welcome Gatwa into the TARDIS.

“The future is here and it’s Ncuti! Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars. Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds,” said Davies in a statement.

The first episodes of Season 14 of Doctor Who are expected to air in Fall 2023, when the iconic show marks its 60th anniversary.
