Disney has given us one of its best animated classics with The Lion King and its 2019 remake became a massive hit. Five years later, Disney is ready to revisit this world with Mufasa: The Lion King, which explores the origin story of one of the most beloved characters from the first film.

Directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins, this prequel will reunite us with Simba’s father Mufasa. He’s still a lost orphaned cub when we meet him at the start of this film but with a bright future ahead of him.

Mufasa’s meeting with a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline, sets in motion a series of events that will forever change his life, leading to an adventure with an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny.

Several cast members from The Lion King remake will be back for this prequel, including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé. Her daughter Blue Ivy Carter will make her feature film debut in this project, joining new cast members Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, and Lennie James.

Mufasa: The Lion King is Disney’s Christmas present to the fans of the original film, and it’s scheduled to be released on December 20.
