Terence Nance exists Space Jam 2.

Warner Bros. announced Tuesday that Malcolm D. Lee has taken over the directing reins for Space Jam 2, the sequel to the hit 1996 film that starred Michael Jordan.

Production has already been under way when the studio announced the news Tuesday.

According to multiple outlets, Nance’s departure from the project was due to the filmmaker and the studio’s different takes on the creative vision for the sequel.

The original film also starred NBA stars Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing and saw Jordan and Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes characters win a basketball match against a group of aliens.

In other recent Space Jam 2 news — Don Cheadle has been added to the film’s call sheet for an undisclosed role.  

Lee’s directorial credits include Girls Trip, Night School, and Barbershop: The Final Cut.
