Lin Shaye, who played the psychic and medium in the Insidious movies, will be joining the cast of the new The Grudge movie.

The reimagining of the classic horror will be directed by Nicolas Pesce, who also worked on the script. So far, we know that Andrea Riseborough, best known for her role as Laura in Birdman, and Demian Bichir will be starring in the movie. John Cho, aka Harold Lee in the Harold & Kumar films, will also be appearing in the feature.

Sam Raimi, who produced the previous Grudge remakes, will be on the production team again for the upcoming film. He said of the project: “We are so excited about this new adaptation. We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.”

It has been fourteen years since the American remake of The Grudge came out. The adaptation starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, who most of us remember from the cult classic TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The remake earned $189.3 million worldwide.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) recently bought the rights to the film. Lin Shaye worked with Sony in the Insidious franchise and starred in its finale Insidious: The Last Key. The movie tied up the series nicely and grossed $166.2 million.

There is no word yet on the estimated release date.
