Zombieland: Double Tap, the sequel of 2009’s zombie comedy Zombieland, is arguably the most anticipated movie of 2019. Although Columbia Pictures are tightly lipped about the details revolving the sequel, the movie’s star Jesse Eisenberg recently decided to offer as an update on the project.

Eisenberg was at SXSW in Austin in order to promote his most recent release, dark comedy The Art of Self Defense, and was asked about the progress of Zombieland: Double Tap. While he wasn’t able to go in detail, he did say that the entire crew is working really hard to deliver fans what they want.

“It’s going really well,” Eisenberg told Movie Web when asked about Zombieland sequel. “Just resting on our laurels and really cocky [laughs]. No, the opposite. We’re working so hard. It’s one of these movies that, people loved it for personal reasons. So it’s not just a big hit movie. People love it for personal reasons so you want to make sure it’s as funny and as personal as the other one.”

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Zombieland was a surprise commercial hit while being well received by the critics. It starred Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin as survivors of a zombie apocalypse who join forces on a dangerous road trip across the Southwestern United States.

After years of rumors and conflicting news, Harrelson confirmed in May 2018 that the sequel is planned with original cast and director making their return. The news was officially confirmed in July, with October 11, 2019, set as a release date.
