Jason Momoa has picked his side in the ultimate comic battle between Marvel and DC when he decided to play superhero Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. It seems, however, that Momoa could have easily been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe instead.

During his appearance at 2018 San Diego Comic Con, Jason Momoa revealed he had an offer to portray a Marvel villain in a Russo Brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo) movie.

“I met the Russo brothers, who are amazing,” Momoa said. “It was one of the best meetings I’ve ever had. I was going to do something with them, which unfortunately didn’t work out… I don’t know [what character it was for]. It was going to be a villain, I think. People always want to hire me to play a villain, you know?”

The 38-year-old Aquaman star didn’t reveal the details about the movie or the exact character from the comics he would play. However, Momoa did discuss the reasons for why he turned down the opportunity to play Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy.

“I think it’s perfectly cast,” he said. “Dave [Bautista] is perfect for that role, for Drax. It didn’t really fit in my time because I’ve done so many things where I don’t say much and I’m colored up and I have my shirt off again. I made a conscious choice to turn down some movies that were action-based to direct Road to Paloma so people could see that side.”

Luckily for DC fans, Jason Momoa decided to stick with DC and is now bringing us a highly anticipated Aquaman stand-alone movie on December 21st, 2018.
