Although there have been reports that Hugh Jackman could return to his role of Wolverine in some of the upcoming Avengers movies, that won’t happen. We could see Wolverine as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he will be played by another actor since Jackman isn’t interested in doing that anymore.

While promoting his latest movie The Greatest Showman, Jackman was asked whether he could see himself being in the Avengers movies in the future. While the 49-year-old actor said that the idea seems interesting, his answer would be no.

“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together,” said Jackman. “And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline, it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously, I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else, I would like to see Wolverine in there.”

Hugh Jackman played the character from 2002 when the first X-Men movie was released. He went on to portray the character in eight more films, including 2017’s Logan. After filming Logan, Jackman announced he won’t be returning to the role again but hinted on multiple occasions that he might consider playing Wolverine in Avengers movies. Unfortunately, it looks like he changed his mind.
