House of the Dragon is finally coming back for its second in just a month, and judging by what we’ve seen so far – clash of the titans is underway. The new Season 2 trailer gives us a glimpse of the Dance of the Dragons, the epic war that led to the ultimate demise of House Targaryen.

The death of King Viserys I Targaryen shook the members of his family to their core at the end of Season 1 and marked the beginning of a war of succession that will shape their legacy. House Targaryen will go to war in Season 2, and the new trailer teases the clash between two rivaling fractions, led by Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke).

Showrunner Ryan Condal described the second season as “the march to war” in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, and compared it to a cold war because each side is trying to undeniably win the throne through plotting, backstabbing, and spy games.

In addition to D’Arcy and Cooke, Season 2 will also star Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans, plus newcomers Abubakar Salim, Freddie Fox, Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, and Clinton Liberty. It will return to HBO on June 16, with eight brand-new episodes.
