Harry Styles will not be part of Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the former One Direction performer and Dunkirk star is no longer in talks to play Prince Eric in the Rob Marshall-directed musical. Variety adds that sources say “the initial reports about his casting were premature” and that Styles rejected the role amicably.
Previous confirmed casting includes Halle Bailey as Ariel, the mermaid princess who dreams of being a human, and Melissa McCarthy as the villainous Ursula.
The film written by David Magee will feature the original songs from the 1989 animated classic, as well as new songs from original composer Alan Menken with lyrics by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
