Karren Gillan has voiced her feelings towards James Gunn being rehired by Disney for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. These feelings are all overwhelmingly positive.

Last year, Marvel director James Gunn was fired by Disney after a series of problematic tweets resurfaced. Fans signed a petition to bring them back and Guardian star Dave Bautista was particularly vocal about his resentment towards Disney for their decision to fire Gunn.

Last month, Disney made the decision to rehire the director and fans and cast members are delighted to learn that his original script will be being used. Among these excited fans is Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

“His personality, the tone of those movies, I can only describe as James’ personality,” she said. “It’s his sense of humor, his writing, his taste in music. These characters are extensions of him. It’s a really personal project for him.”

She added: “It definitely wouldn’t have been the same version of Guardians.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is pegged for a 2020 release date.
