“Friends” Monkey to Return to Television

The highly anticipated adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s beloved graphic novel Y: The Last Man has tapped some major primate talent. 

Marcel, the monkey from Friends, is poised to be make its return to television. The capuchin monkey, named Katie in real life, has been cast as a companion for Barry Keoghan’s Yorick Brown on FX’s forthcoming adaptation. 

The casting was actually noticed by FX CEO John Landgraf who served as an exec on NBC when Marcel starred in the iconic sitcom while reviewing clips of the adaptation. 

During the Television Critics Association summer press tour he said, “I recognize Jennifer Aniston, I recognize Courteney Cox, and I recognize that monkey! There’s nothing like a really experienced actor who knows how to hit their marks!”

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Landgraf’s observation with Katie’s animal trainer, who confirmed the casting.
