Tragedy struck the movie set of Edward Norton’s upcoming film “Motherless Brooklyn” this Thursday when a blaze erupted, claiming the life of a New York City fireman.

The fireman, Michael R. Davidson, was only 37 years of age and a father of four. He had been working with the NYC Fire Department for 15 years and was recognized for his bravery.

Norton allegedly spotted the smoke coming from the basement of the building that night and alerted officials.

“To our great sorrow, we now know that a NYC firefighter lost his life battling the blaze that grew, and our hearts ache in solidarity with his family,” the film’s producers said in a statement. “New York City firefighters truly are the bravest in the world. We watched firsthand with astonishment as they charged into the smoke to make sure all were safely out and then fought to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading, putting their lives on the line as they do every day.”

The SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris and national executive director David White also said in a statement:

“We offer our deepest sympathies to the families, friends and colleagues of New York City Firefighter Michael R. Davidson and all of the heroes who have made the greatest sacrifice,” they said. “We honor your lives and are deeply grateful for your service.”
