Eddie Murphy Gives SNL Its Best Ratings in Two Years

Eddie Murphy’s return to Saturday Night Live is officially a huge success. 

According to live-plus-same-day “fast official” ratings from Nielsen Media Research, the latest episode of SNL, which saw the return of Murphy as host, earned the show’s biggest ratings in two and a half years. The show delivered a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.921 million viewers overall in Live+Same Day.

Joining Murphy who returned to the live comedy show after more than two decades, was Lizzo as the musical guest. It also featured appearances by Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Tracy Morgan, Alec Baldwin, Larry David, Maya Rudolph, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, and Rachel Dratch. 

The last installment to hold the title of highest-scoring and the most-viewed episode of SNL was a May 2017 episode hosted by Melissa McCarthy with musical guest HAIM. That episode averaged a 2.7 rating in adults 18-49 and attracted 10.382 million viewers overall.
