David S. Goyer will reboot the 1987 original of Hellraiser.

In the era of reboots, news of a revival can go one of two ways. For the optimist, a reboot can bring new life to a classic story with the use of our technologically advanced cinematic effects. For the pessimist, a reboot is the chance to totally ruin an old-time classic.

The news that Hellraiser will be getting a reboot, however, has been accompanied by the news that David S. Goyer will be responsible for the project. Goyer is a talented screenwriter and was responsible for creating Batman Begins. He is also a big fan of the original so it seems that Clive Barker’s classic is in safe hands.

“I’ve been a fan of Clive [Barker]’s work since the original Books of Blood paperbacks and The Hellbound Heart novella,” Goyer said. “Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.”
