“Charmed” to Change Showrunners and Creative Direction Ahead of Season 2

Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery in "Charmed"

The CW’s Charmed reboot might look a lot different when the series returns for its second season. According to Deadline, showrunner Carter Covington is leaving the project after one season and will be replaced by Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro. The duo is also reportedly expected to take the series in a different “creative direction.”

Kruger and Shapiro are wife and husband team who is known as creators of CBS’ Salvation, on which they also served as showrunners. Their other projects include Halle Berry-starred Extant,USA Network’s Necessary Roughness, and Bravo’s Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce.

The Charmed reboot premiered in October, 2018 and stars Melonie Diaz, Madeleine Mantock, Sarah Jeffery, Rupert Evans, Ser’Darius Blain and Nick Hargrove in the lead roles. Although The CW received a lot of backlash from fans of the original when it announced the project, the series ended up becoming one of network’s most popular programs, averaging 1.8 million viewers per episode.

The CW originally ordered 13 episodes for season one, but ended up ordering nine more episodes after the series satisfied ratings goals. Back in late January, the network decided to renew Charmed for season two although the episode count and premiere date remain unknown.
