Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Christina Hodson, who wrote the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, will write DC’s upcoming Batgirl movie.

In addition to Bumblebee, Hodson has previously written the 2017 thriller Unforgettable starring Rosario Dawson as well as Shut In starring Naomi Watts.

Joss Whedon was previously employed to write Batgirl but decided to step away, as he did not have any ideas.

Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC are such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story,” Whedon said in a statement to EW at the time. “I’m grateful to Geoff [Johns] and Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”

Rumors began to swirl that Whedon would be parting ways after Justice League failed to live up to expectations.

The movie will revolve around Barbara Gordon, who is the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner James Gordon.
