The Comic Con celebration continues in San Diego, with new trailers and lots of new info on all of our favorite shows.

One of the big ones is AMC’s The Walking Dead, which will return for its 9th season in October.

Check out the five and a half minutes trailer below, as well as the scoop from the show’s creators and cast!

Let’s start with the bad news. Everyone’s favorite sheriff, Rick Grimes, will bow out during season 9, actor Andrew Lincoln has confirmed.

“This will be my last season,” Lincoln said, bidding an emotional farewell at Comic Con.

“I love this show, it means everything to me. I love the people who make this show–I promise not to cry, I’ve done enough crying on screen–I am also deeply fond of the people who watch this show, you people. This has been the most extraordinary, amazing, and beautiful experience of my career made largely because of you guys.”

But he promised to go out with a bang! “My relationship with Mr. Grimes is far from over … There are two episodes [this season] that are my favorite episodes since the pilot,” Lincoln told fans.

Much like the comics, season 9 will begin with a time jump, though unlike the comics it won’t be as considerable (a few months to the comic’s assumed 2 years jump). The world is falling into decay as we draw further and further away from the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, and Rick and the gang have to deal with this changing reality.

There’ll also be some new characters, including a new big bad: Alpha, played by Samantha Morton, who leads a new intriguing group called The Whisperers. What kind of threat they pose to our intrepid group of survivors remains to be seen (unless you read the comics, and then you already know).
