“Big Bang Theory” Gets Series Finale Date

Mayim Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Jim Parsons, Melissa Rauch, and Kunal Nayyar in "The Big Bang Theory"

It’s a date fans have been expecting and dreading.

CBS has announced The Big Bang Theory finale airdate — the final episode of the long-time running series will air May 16.

The hourlong series finale will give fans a chance to say goodbye to the series, which aired its first episode on September 24, 2007. According to The Wrap, by the time the series ends, it will be the longest-running multi-camera series in television history with 279 episodes.

Producers and stars have been tight-lipped on how they’ll end. A few months ago all that Chuck Lorre told Deadline was: “we have a general idea of what we are aiming for with May and the finale. These days there’s a lot of melancholy in the background at all times. It’s been a 12-year project that has been really just a joy. It’s going to be very, very sad to let it go.”

The stars of the popular show are Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Mayim Bialik, Melissa Rauch, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar. The show garnered 52 Emmy nominations and won 10.
