Another DC Comics-inspired TV show is coming to The CW. The network has announced on this week that the Batwoman television series is officially in the works.

Greg Berlanti, who has his fingerprints all over The CW’s Arrowverse, will be tasked with developing the series, while Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) will pen the script.

The character of Batwoman will be introduced at The CW’s annual DC series crossover event scheduled for December.

This will be the first time the character is featured in the live-action form. The actress that will portray the role is still to be determined.

Alongside the announcement, The CW also revealed the official synopsis for the series:

Batwoman revolves around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Batwoman will join other DC Comics-based series at The CW, rounded up in the shared universe called Arrowverse, which include Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.
