Aquaman Spinoff Movie “The Trench” in the Works

Jason Momoa in "Aquaman"

Warner Bros. and DC finally scored it big with one of their superhero movies after Jason Momoa-starred Aquaman crushed the box office and managed to earn more than $1.1 billion so far. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that the studio is already working on a follow-up movie. Just, not the one we were hoping for.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is working on a spinoff movie focusing on underwater kingdom The Trench from the original film. Reportedly, Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald will take on the task of writing the script for the feature that will feel more like a horror movie than a superhero flick.

Titled The Trench, the movie will have a lot smaller budget than the rest of DC movies and will not feature any of the Aquaman’s main cast. It will, however, be produced by Aquaman director James Wan and producer Peter Safran.

The Trench are the new addition to the DC World, being first introduced in the comics in 2011. Once the inhabitant of Atlantis, they survived the continent’s submergence in the water but ended up being stranded in the Marianas Trench. The Trench developed various powers over the years while turning into dangerous monsters.
