Amazon Ordered a US Reboot of “Utopia”

"Utopia"

Amazon has ordered a US remake of the British Chanel 4 drama series Utopia.

Utopia is a British thriller series which aired for two seasons from 2013 until it got cancelled. The show follows a group of five people who are pursued by an organization willing to kill them in order to get the original manuscript of the cult graphic novel “The Utopia Experiments.”

The season 2 finale left several questions unanswered. Perhaps this is why Amazon has commissioned a reboot, which will be overseen by Gillian Flynn – the author of acclaimed Gone Girl.

“Utopia is pure creative catnip to me. Dennis Kelly’s show blew my mind, and he has been so incredibly generous in letting me crack open his world and play around in it and make it my own weird, wild place,” Flynn said.

Utopia is all about exploring resonant issues within dark, twisted storytelling—it’s a series that’s urgent and current and a little ‘holy-crap!’ But a hell of a lot of a fun.”

Nick Hall, the Head of Alternative Series for Amazon Studios, spoke about their decision to involve Gillian Flynn.

“We are huge fans of Gillian Flynn’s electrifying work,” he said. “She crafts stories that hold her audience in a constant state of suspense and subverts the expectations behind her characters. She will deliver Prime Video members a series they won’t forget, and Utopia’s relevance is sure to connect with viewers around the globe.”
