Watch The New “Current War” Trailer

Nicholas Hoult in "The Current War"

The Current War has a new trailer.

The historical drama stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison, Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla, and Michael Shannon as George Westinghouse. The Martin Scorcese-produced film was penned by Michael Mitnick (The Giver) and directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

The trailer features the three’s dramatic battle over electricity in what would be known as “the war of the currents.”

“This is a battle of the greatest minds of America,” Edison says. Westinghouse adds, “If you want to be remembered, it’s simple: Shoot a president. But if you prefer to have what I call a legacy, you leave the world a better place than you found it.”

The road to theaters has been rocky for The Current War. The film made its debut over two years ago at the Toronto Film Festival, but following the Harvey Weinstein scandal it was dropped from its original distributor, The Weinstein Company. The film was eventually bought by David Glasser’s newly established 101 Studios.

The Current War premieres this fall.
