The streaming giant has made another big acquisition, paying a reportedly $20 million for the Ted Melfi-directed dramedy The Starling

With production shut, Netflix opted to acquire the world rights to the film based on the script and four-minute promo reel.

The film stars Melissa McCarthy, Chris O’Dowd, and Kevin Kline. There’s also an ensemble cast that includes Daveed Diggs, Loretta Devine, and Timothy Olyphant.

In The Starling, a married couple tries to rebuild their relationship after suffering a tragedy. While the husband (O’Dowd) heads off to deal with his grief in recovery, the wife (McCarthy) tries to heal in the real world. After she grows a beautiful garden in their backyard, she finds herself repeatedly attacked by a starling. She then turns to a psychiatrist-turned-veterinarian with baggage all his own (Kline) who tries to help her with her bird problem and ends up making a larger impact on her life.
