]]>We’ve compiled a short (and not at all thorough!) list of some of our favorite hits, that add that extra oomph to the movie experience.
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters, of course!
The American sci-fi comedy film, directed and produced by Ivan Reitman, featured Bill Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis. The noted actors portrayed three parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business.
The Ghostbusters score was composed by Elmer Bernstein, who had won an Oscar for his score to Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) and was nominated for 14 Oscars in total.
The cult science fiction film, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd was directed by Robert Zemeckis. Fox portrayed in the quirky teenager, Marty McFly, who accidentally travels back in time, where he meets his future parents. And the soundtrack added to the epic experience. Alan Silvestri actually began recording the score just two weeks before the film’s first preview.
The epic film, written and directed by George Lucas, came out with the added bonus of an out of this world soundtrack. Perhaps the most recognizable theme, present throughout the franchise, is the Imperial March, also known as Darth Vader’s theme. Because how can you be the baddie without a suitable march that follows you around?
The classic Western from legendary director Sergio Leoni, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly features this memorable tune. The theme was written by Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who has composed over 500 scores for cinema and television, as well as over 100 classical works.
The musical film directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney featured numerable hits written and composed by the Sherman Brothers.
Perhaps one of the catchiest of them is A Spoonful of Sugar. The melody is heard throughout the film and has become associated with the cheeky nanny.

]]>Radiohead’s Talk Show Host and the general ’90s feel puts Baz Lurhman’s adaption up there.
T Rex, Television… need I go on?
The iconic moment where Bowie’s Heroes plays wen they drive through the tunnel and into the city.
Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen etc etc.
Purely for the “Simple Minds” track during that iconic, heart warming final scene.
There are so many bangers on Star-Lord’s mix tape. We’re not surprised he is so attached to his Walkman.
Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top. The soundtrack is as nostalgic of high school as the movie.
Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan… not to mention Leonard Cohen and Nat King Cole.
Purely for the iconic torture scene, uncanningly staged to Stealer’s Wheels “Stuck in the Middle with You.”
Lou Reed, Blur, Primal Scream.. Everyone has a track favorite from Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting (1996). If you haven’t danced around your living room belting Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life” yet, we recommend you do so now.

]]>10. Jurassic Park
John William sparks wonder and excitement in a way which perfectly compliments Spielberg’s production.
9. Lord of the Rings
An obvious choice but Howard Shore must be credited for his fantastical score which brings another level of perfection to the epic franchise.
8. ET
Credit to John Williams again for a theme which I can’t listen to without blubbering like a baby.
7. Harry Potter
It’s probably cheating to not specify which one, but the music in every film is great and the theme is iconic.
6. Blade Runner
Vangelis sets the futuristic and dystopian feel of the movie admirably in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.
5. Amelie
A lovely piece of music by Yann Tiersen which sets the atmosphere of Paris through Amelie’s eyes beautifully.
4. Schindler’s List
Another John Williams masterpiece which has to be one of the most emotional themes in the history of film.
3. Requiem for a Dream
Clint Mansell’s score is exhilarating and makes the climax of the movie even more shocking and memorable.
2. Star Wars
Do I really need to say anything about this one?
1. Jaws
John Williams did something amazing when he managed to write a theme which was terrifying, suspense invoking and immediately identifiable regardless of whether or not you’ve seen the movie. He did all this with just two spine-chilling notes.
