The best horror movie soundtracks are ones that cause the hair at the back of our necks stand even when we’re not watching the movie itself! So we’ve put together a list of ten of the very best soundtracks!

It Follows

Game composer Disasterpeace created a horror score that combines the eerie sounds of horror classics with modern, synthy twists.

Suspira (1977 & 2018)

Goblin’s film score for the original Suspira was superb. Thom Yorke’s score for the remake, however, was equally chilling.

The Thing

John Carpenter handed the task of scoring his 1982 masterpiece The Thing over to Ennio MorriconeThe score is admirable and remarkably anxiety inducing.

Cannibal Holocaust

Riz Ortolani’s orchestral score for the gruesome 1980 horror is made disturbing thanks to the unsettling juxtaposition between the beautiful score and the grotesque events of the film.

Rosemary’s Baby

Kryzysztof Komeda’s score for Rosemary’s Baby is melodic and innocent sounding. This creepily contrasts with the evil lingering in the movie.

SAW

Charlie Clouser’s SAW theme fits the dark and sinister basement setting of the movie perfectly. The score builds up suspense and then climaxes perfectly.

The Exorcist

Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” accompanies the horrifying exorcism scene. Oldfield was only 19 when he wrote it.

Eraserhead

The mostly music-less film contains just two pieces of music. One of them is the strange and jarring track “In Heaven,” sung by the lady living in the radiator. It’s bizarre and intriguing, just like the rest of the feature.

The Omen

Jerry Goldsmith’s theme for The Omen definitely helped the movie out at the box office.

Halloween

Finally, John Cartpenter’s chilling synth theme for Halloween was amazingly composed in under one hour. Nonetheless, it remains one of the most iconic soundtracks of movie history and that’s why we’re putting it at number one.

Yes, 2018 is over but that makes now the perfect time to look back at some of the best movies the year brought. Here are the top 10 horror films ranked from best to worst.

A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place is a horrifying, anxious horror flick which at its heart is a gripping monster movie. It’s unique, thrilling and unnervingly suspenseful.

Hereditary

What if evil could be inherited? The tale of the haunted house got terrifying again with 2018’s terrifying and unique horror Hereditary.

Bird Box

In this post-apocalyptic nightmare, nowhere is safe. Like The Quiet Place, Bird Box depicts what it is like to live in constant anxiety and fear.

Apostle

A brutal and bloodthirsty cult tale from Netflix, which didn’t disappoint.

Suspiria

Critics may be divided on this uncompromising remake, but whatever your thoughts might be, this radical re-imagining of Suspiria is bursting with insanity and horror.

Annihilation

Netflix’s surreal and unnerving sci-fi thriller pulls you into an uncomfortable world and gets under your skin.

Mandy

Nicholas Cage’s most recent movie appearance was surprisingly gripping with a healthy dose of violence and bloodshed.

Halloween

Michael Myers was gloriously terrifying in his return to the overdue Halloween sequel. Although it wasn’t quite as compelling as the original, it did bring closure to the franchise.

Insidious: The Last Key

The final installment of the Insidious franchise seemed to end the era of cheesy jump scares before we received a chilling run of terrifying post-apocalyptic terrors. Still, it was good fun and wrapped up the franchise nicely. Read our review here.

The Nun

The Nun hardly lives up to some of the other titles on this list but it was still entertaining and some people liked it. Read our harsh review here.

Halloween may long behind us, but the horror hype is not. Here are 10 of the most iconic horror movie villains of all time.

Billy the Puppet

A laughing dummy on a tricycle doesn’t sound all that creepy… oh wait, it does. And it is.

Dracula

There have been hundreds of vampires in movie history, but Dracula will always be the most infamous and the most iconic.

Chucky

Chucky from Child’s Play is not a doll you want in your toy box. Though, if it’s a choice between Chucky and The Conjuring‘s Annabelle, we choose Chucky every time.

Pennywise

Pennywise from IT is terrifying in both the original and the remake. He’s also responsible for a growing epidemic of coulrophobia (fear of clowns).

Michael Myers

A slasher franchise like Halloween doesn’t get to be one of the greatest horror movies of all time without one killer villain. That villain is Michael Myers.

Freddy Krueger

His horrific appearance and the fact he kills you in your sleep makes Freddy terrifying. His witty banter and brilliant one-liners is what makes him iconic.

Samara

Samara from The Ring is so creepy, we don’t even want to share a picture.

Kayako

AKA that seriously creepy kid with long hair from The Grudge.

Jason

Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees is another masked slasher villain that you definitely don’t want to encounter.

Jack Torrance

Jack Torrance from The Shining might have the appearance of an ordinary man, but his unpredictable mood swings and the ax he swings about makes him one hell of a villain.

2018’s horror movie Halloween became a surprise hit at the box office and ended up getting positive reviews from the critics, who even called it “the best sequel” in the Halloween film series. The success of the movie was attributed mainly to the fact that filmmakers managed to capture the spirit of the original while Jamie Lee Curtis delivered a fantastic performance.

Fans immediately started to demand a sequel, so Lee Curtis was asked in a recent interview whether she would say yes to Halloween 2. The 59-year-old actress responded that she would be happy to do it but under one condition: she wants director David Gordon Green to return as well.

“If David Gordon Green called me up and said, ‘Let’s do another Halloween,’ I would do another Halloween, because he did such a beautiful job,” said Lee Curtis.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Halloween 2 finding its way to theaters soon, since David Gordon Green had an idea to make two movies from the very start. Before the filming on Halloween even started, Gordon Green and Danny McBride, co-writer and producer of the movie, pitched an idea to film two films back-to-back. Still, they ended up settling for one, since they didn’t know how the audience will react to the resurrecting of the franchise.

One of the movie’s producers, Jason Blum, also gave encouraging statements about Halloween 2 in the past. In an interview with Forbes in September, Blum said that the sequel is almost a certainty if the original performs at the box office and people love it.

“I’d love to do sequels, and I hope we do a sequel and we will do a sequel if the movie performs,” he said. “We’re not going to decide if we do a sequel or not until we see the reaction to this movie. But I hope to make it.”

Everyone likes a good horror movie, right? Ok, maybe not everyone, but there is a large number of moviegoers who like the suspense, blood and gore mix that only horror movies can deliver.

Compared to other movie genres, the horror movies always had bigger chances to become a franchise or film series. The reason is simple; if you have a good villain/s or a way to scare people, you make most of it. Now, the history of cinema has given us some cult psychological and sci-fi to slasher horror movie franchises, but which one is the best? Well, we decided to give our take on that by making a list of five best horror movie film series. Like it? Hate it? Let us know in the comment section below.

5. Scream

We begin our list of best horror movie film series with one of the best horror franchises from the ’90s. The story of Scream revolves around a girl named Sydney Prescott and her friends, who get targeted by a crazy serial killer. The original Scream movie from 1996 is without a doubt the best one out there, but the three sequels are definitely watchable.

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Starting in 1984, A Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic that managed to keep its grim and dark atmosphere throughout all nine movies released to date. Franchise’s centerpiece, Freddy Kruger, is the ultimate villain from nightmares, and that is exactly what he delivers to his victims. If you want the same treatment, then this is a franchise you can’t miss out on.

3. Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees surely takes place as one of the biggest and most recognizable movie serial killers out there. He is simply a horror icon, a rock star in his own twisted, demented way. Friday the 13th franchise is another classic with its own unique atmosphere. There are 12 movies in the series, some great, others not so, but all definitely worth watching.

2. Halloween

Original Halloween from 1978 might be the first horror slasher movie ever. It follows Michael Mayers as he escapes the mental asylum after being locked up for killing his family as a boy. The Halloween franchise has the all the quality of a good horror movie and accompanied by one of the most recognizable soundtracks, it is bound to send chills down your spine.

1. Alien

Compared to some other horror film series, Alien movies haven’t aged a bit. The original is one of the best horror movies ever and the sequels, while not on par with the first one, are still thrilling and nail-biting. The Alien film series has set standards for horror franchises across the world and is rightfully at the top of our best horror movie film series list. The cold atmosphere, the dark setting, the stunning visuals, the terrifying alien, the acting – it has everything for a true masterpiece.
